IFZA Company Setup: A Practical Free Zone Licence Guide
What IFZA is, who it suits, and how the setup process runs — from the team that files these licences regularly.
1. What IFZA is
IFZA — the International Free Zone Authority — is a free zone jurisdiction licensed under the Government of Fujairah, one of the U.A.E.'s seven emirates. What makes it relevant to Dubai-based founders is that its business centre and day-to-day client operations are run out of Dubai, so you get a Dubai-facing setup experience while holding a Fujairah free zone licence. It's one of the most widely used free zones in the country, largely because of its broad activity list and cost-effective structure.
2. Who IFZA suits
- Service businesses and consultancies — management consulting, marketing, IT services and similar activities that don't need a large physical footprint.
- Trading companies — general trading and specific-commodity trading licences are both available.
- Real estate and property advisory firms — a common fit for founders running an advisory or brokerage-support business rather than a licensed real estate brokerage itself, which needs separate regulator registration.
- Startups and solo founders — the flexi-desk options mean you can hold a licence and visa eligibility without committing to a full office from day one.
3. What's typically included
- Full foreign ownership of the company.
- A trade licence covering one or more approved business activities.
- A choice of office packages, from flexi-desk arrangements up to dedicated office space, which also determines how many visas the licence supports.
- Establishment card processing so you can begin sponsoring visas.
- Repatriation of profits and capital, standard across U.A.E. free zones.
Exactly which activities and visa quotas apply depends on your specific application — we confirm this against your activity code before you commit to a package.
4. The setup process
- Activity and name selection — choosing the activity code(s) and reserving a trade name.
- Application and documentation — passport copies, application forms, and a short description of the business.
- Licence package selection — choosing the office/flexi-desk configuration that matches your visa needs.
- Payment and issuance — once the application is approved and fees settled, the trade licence is issued.
- Establishment card and visas — opening the immigration file and processing visas for yourself, staff or family.
5. IFZA vs Meydan vs RAKEZ
IFZA tends to win on cost and activity breadth; Meydan suits founders who specifically want a Dubai free zone address, particularly for real estate and media activities; RAKEZ is often the most cost-effective option and extends to industrial and warehousing setups that IFZA doesn't cover. See the full comparison in our business setup guide.
6. How BeeSmart handles it
We confirm the activity, the right package, and the visa allocation before you pay anything, file the application, and hand over a complete pack — licence, establishment card status and a renewal date already in the calendar. See our renewal guide for what happens from year two onward.
